Day 60

It's now been two months. So many little things have changed, so many bigger ones too.
S had a meltdown at 3 am this morning when he woke up and announced All Done. When neither [livejournal.com profile] aardnebby or I agreed that we were "All Done Sleeping" and that we'd be happy to get up, he proceeded to scream and cry for an hour. Poor child. Ended up snuggling him to sleep once he finally was in the frame of mind to accept snuggles.
Which made the day tricky, but it went off pretty smoothly. Students at the school are listless, and tired, and really shouldn't be spending 5 hours looking at screens so we try and help but they are definitely falling into some pretty interesting patterns and habits.
Colleague is considering sending a "stray child" back to their home country. The girl was here to practice her skating with the colleague's son, but when will couple's skating pick up? With social distancing or with a bubble?
Lovely quiz night tonight - came in fourth, but was really happy with my answers.
Starting to feel overall rather weary and worn out - hopefully next week will give me a break!

Day 34

Catherine wrote two letters, one to her grandparents and one to an aunt. We got a box of Hotel Chocolat from Danielle, who is still struggling a lot. I'm trying to be as supportive as possible although it can be difficult at times. Have been ordering All The Books for work, and trying to get more engaged with my work in general to make sure that I don't fall behind.

We finished the day with a BBQ - a bit too cool to eat outside, but the smokey flavour of the sausages was welcome, and the aperitif of gin and tonic and potato chips felt soothing after a frazzled week.

Today was an odd day. I struggled to feel like I accomplished anything, even if I still managed to do what I wanted in terms of personal stuff. Meh :) Tomorrow will be better!

But I managed to: practise violin, do my exercise and colour in one page. Making sure that I make time for myself seems to be working.

    Day 14

Tried to make sure today was restful for everyone - poor @aardnebby.lj suffers from hayfever when the weather gets better, so made sure he took his medication early in the day. Pancakes were lovely - S's vocabulary is coming along leaps and bounds and he could definitely say "pancake" rather than just "cake" today!

Family has a nice and successful Zoom session together - I think it helped isolated sister a bit. Different kind of FOMO happening at the moment; I've decided also to listen to as much of the ROH's offering as well as the Met Nightly Stream... and to see what else we could do in terms of "cultural offerings". Don't want to overwhelm, but also keen to broaden horizons beyond the backyard.
Going for a bike ride all together, Cathiner doing great on the tag along, Seb enjoying the bumpy part of Winnersh Meadows. Checking up on elderly neighbours. Chatting with upstairs neighbours. Successful Zoom session. Trying to do more opera - different kind of FOMO?

We also used the pizza bases @aardnebby.lj picked up from the Italian store the other day, with some of their deli meat and mozzarella. Definitely worth it! I'm half-way to being convinced to swapping away from delivery/supermarket pizza for good... except I'm also aware that it would take more effort. Something to think about though.
We finished the evening doing a "watch along" with T, H and O's child, all of us watching Frozen 2, with popcorn and ice cream. And then C and I had a "sleepover" in the living room on the air mattress. Something we can do again another time if she wants, it's an easy "treat".

Not having a plan is sometimes making things tricky. Trying to keep our day organised and our ideas fresh to make sure that we have a routine but not a rut. Looking forward to many different things to do can also feel overwhelming: I'd told myself no work at the weekend or in the evening but I find myself sliding back into pre-work patterns.
